We are almost on our way to Australia and have a few loose ends to tie up, one of those being my hubby's pensions that have been placed in protector or preserver funds. I would like to know if it is possible to transfer these funds as drawing the money would result in a huge loss and we do not particularly want to leave them in South Africa. Can you advise??

I am afraid that I cannot comment on South African pensions, and it may be worthwhile speaking to the provider in South Africa to see if they will allow a transfer. It is likely that you will incur the loss though, since transferring assets of a pension scheme is quite difficult, and it is likely that the South African scheme would require you to liquidate your holding and transfer the funds as cash.
