| Hi
I'm in court tomorrow to hopefully get consent for my daughter to emigrate, as my ex won't sign the papers.
My daughter has a medical condition, which I have had to prove won't be an issue in Oz.
I have a feeling the Judge is going to grill me over 'what happens if your daughter has to be admitted into hospital?.......who would pay for that?'
I know Medicare pay for certain things, like seeing your GP etc...........but could someone please tell me how it works........she will need daily medication, so I guess I visit the GP once a month to get a prescription, but who would pay for hospital admissions or check ups with her consultant?
Any advice would be appreciated for me to fire back at the Judge

signing up for medicare was easy, just go along to the nearest office fill out a few forms and show them your visa and they send you a card in the post a week or so later. You dont regiser with a GP here there are meds centers all over the place here basicly you call your nearest 1 and a doctor will normaly try and see you with in an hour or that what iv been told at our med center, have nt had to use it yet.
Good luck for tomorrow every thing crossed for you

basically once you sign up with medicare you can claim back approx $32.oo for every $50.00 spent visting a gp or hospital, some docs bulk bill which means you dont pay as they claim back the fees for you. most hospitals are private and can charge approx $80.00 for walking thru the door - this cannot be claimed back.
There are nhs type hospitals here where you dont pay but i can imagine they are like the uk and you would sit for hrs to been seen or get an appointment. i had to take my youngest to doc last week very late in the evening and found a bulk bill medical & dental clinic a few mins from home, we were in and out within 10 mins.
and no fee at the end, so this was great.
You have to pay for all prescriptions including kids, this cannot be claimed thru medicare either, but the chemist do offer you a cheaper priced version of what doc has put on script if one is available.
daughters antibiotics cost nearly $45.
if its a long term thing for your daughter i think you would be best to find a bulk bill clinic and they will pay / claim the fees, so you have no actual costs apart from scripts,
or private medical could be an option
hope this helps | |

Just found out about the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS). Many types of medicines cost much more than the price you pay.....some cost hundreds of dollars. The Australian Government does this through the PBS.
PBS Contribution amounts as of 1st January 2007:
General Patients : $30.70
Concession Card Holders : $4.90
DVA : $4.90
If you have a DVA White Card for specific conditions accepted by DVA, you will only have to pay $4.90 for your medicine.
Apparently all Australian residents are eligible for the PBS.....as are people from Italy, New Zealand, the Republic of Ireland, Finland, Norway, Malta, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom
*Please Note.....if you chose a more expensive brand of medicine, or if your doctor prescribes one, the extra amount you pay won't count towards your PBS Safety Net*
Has anyone heard of this before??

Location: Perth Wa | Beth I have just been into hospital and because my doctor bulck bills then I did not pay a cent. If you daughter got rushed into hospital then depending on which hospital she went then this would depend on whether you would have to pay or not and then claim it back off medicare. I know the Royal Perth does not charge and Armadale does not charge as this is where I went to.My doctor sent me to Royal Perth and because I was not classed as an emmergancy and they are busy then they asked if I would then go to Armadale to have my opp and as it's only half an hour down the road I said yes.
